JACK bpm 130 Empty JACK bpm 130

    Post  D Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:21 am

    Here's the structure:

    V1:
ain't love a wreck on your soul
when you're putting up a fight
and ain't it sad it's so sad
you don't know what to do to make it right

    CH:
    Now you're a fool
Mama says do find that bottle full of whiskey
    Cuz nothing goes down
    when jack's not around
    and you always got jack
ya jack's got your back tonight

    V2:
whoa love's a wicked little nymph with a closed tight fist
and a real good grip on you
but she'll go down, go down, go down
when you drink to her good health too
    here's to your health

    *Chorus are 16 measures long
**Warren should start practicing backup vox for the choruses.

Well, my JDI and my direct mixer both provide signal to the earphones part of the interface but I don't get a record signal from the interface to the track. That sucks! If I buy a new interface, it's gonn be an eight track so I can record drums! If I can find one cheap enough.

The TASCAM took me weeks to figure out and integrate. Are you on sonar too?

Post links to exactly which products you have....maybe we can all figure it out together.

If you plan on doing drums, and outboard limiter might be a good investment as well.

Here are some fairly solid 8 track audio interfaces:

    Echo AudioFire Pre8
    Tascam US800 (Dena's new toy)
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 (seems like the winner of the bunch)
    M-Audio FastTrack 8R
    M-Audio ProFire 2626
    MotU 8 Pre
    PreSonus Firestudio Project
Line 6 UX8 (great interface but proceed with caution)

What about a break after the bridge where Dena counts us back in "2,3,4" CRASH!!! or something.

Okay, I think the drums are dialed in pretty good. I have all settings saved so I can really make this dynamic (to quote Dena). First, we need to change the way we have always done business as far as songs. My biggest failure to you guys has been the way I mixed and produced. I always "mixed into" the plugs I had set-up and really paid no attention to things like track volume. I had it in my mind to twiddle knobs from the start instead of waiting until the end. I pulled off all the effects on GO and reset the track levels and buss routes. I was floored. We already had a pretty good sound so it just needs a little tweak here and there. I have starting using automation groups to make a "song within a song." Instead of using lots of compression, I will record my fader automation by group, then combine them and automate the group. Should really make the song breathe.

Let's not put the cart before the horse. First we need to track. We all have exponentially increased the quality of our recordings. I am sending out a dry drum track for Jack. My finger is getting a little better so I should be able to lay polished tracks soon. The track I did yesterday was for scratch only. I love the structure.

    Drop D Capo #3

    D---C--C(G)--Single note walk down F--E--D (6th string--- 6th fret, 5th fret, open)
    <literal: F--D#--D#(D) (G#--G walk down)>

    Bridge

    6th String--Open

    5th String--8th(F)--12th(A)--13th(A#)
    4th String-------------15th(F)

My capo ran off but think that is right!

This genre is seriously NOT my forte. I still think we should seek out another singer for this song. Perhaps when it's completely done we could even consider hiring someone.

    Other notes:

This should be a fun, bar type song. Warren should fill in where I've left spaces and back me up EVERYWHERE I sing "always got jack."

Bridge: Repetitions of "always got jack" should have a lot of people (like a bunch of people singing in a bar). Lead guitars should follow to take us back into the chorus-something melodic and sassy but not over the top showboating.

Think Country-Rock-Crossover and this song will be for pitch not a VESTED song.

    Hugs!!!!

I think that you can sing this fine. Right now the vocal is a little overpowering in ths mix. I know it's just a temp mix, though. Personally I don't tjhink we need another singer on it. IMHO.
